What's the impact of Google Wallet's new native push notifications?

NEW

Our goal at Splio is to provide your customers with the best user experience through their wallet.

Our solution adapts to every device, whether it's a computer, tablet, iPhone or Android smartphone, for an efficient user experience. It enables you to optimize the use of your brand's pass and use it as a powerful channel thanks to updates and push notifications.

In Apple Wallet, native app notifications have always been available. However, until May 16, this was not the case for Android, which is why we developed Web Push Notifications. Since the change on May 16, the situation has evolved considerably.

-

What does this practically mean?

As announced during Google I/O 2024, it is now possible to send mobile push notifications natively through the Google Wallet app.

Thanks to our close partnership with Google, we made it available in Splio Mobile Wallet on the same day, which means:

  • From May 16th

    • Any new user who adds a pass to Google Wallet will have the app's push notifications enabled by default.

    • We have replaced web push notifications with the new Google Wallet notifications for all Android users.

  • In the coming weeks

    • We will improve the user experience on Android to remove Web push consent.

    • We will enable activeMarketingChannels and a default setting will be implemented for individuals who were Android pass holders before May 16 ⇒ A significant increase in campaign metrics is likely to occur.

-

What's the impact?

  • A better experience for all the Android users

  • Greater reach: the number of users receiving your push notifications will increase considerably, amplifying the reach of your news and offers

  • Your wallet push channel will have a greater impact, helping you develop your multichannel CRM strategy

Despite these improvements, it is important to note that there are certain differences in the user experience:

  • The content of the message does not appear in the notification initially; a second click is required to display it, as shown in the image in the article.

  • If you include a link when setting up your campaign, clicking on the notification will no longer open the link directly, but will instead open the pass. The link will be available below the content of your message.

There's only one thing left for you to do: develop your marketing plan focused on Wallet push notifications to increase your company's visibility!
