How is content personalized?
The personalization language called Liquid, was created by Tobias Lütke, co-founder and CEO of Shopify, in 2008. Written in Ruby (an open-source programming language).
Liquid is very similar to HTML , with several added values like data formatting for example. It creates a bridge between an HTML file and data. This new market standard language is well known to developers.
Splio receives data daily from your source systems (including your e-commerce and/or POS). For example, we receive contact data that corresponds to standard fields such as first name or last name, but also custom fields to your data model. All this data is saved in the Splio data tables available in the Data section .

Here are the steps to personalize a communication:
Sending data to Splio : this data can be varied but must in any case respect certain standards to be integrated.
All this data is recorded in a Splio database that complies with these standards. Five data tables are available: contacts, tickets, products, stores and abandoned carts.
Next comes the configuration of the content (for example an email) by adding the personalization variables based on the Liquid language .
The created design composed of the personalization variables is then sent to the "rendering system" which aims to make the link between each variable and the corresponding data for each contact . For example, replacing the "firstname" with the first name of the targeted contact.
The content is then personalized with each contact's data to fit each individual in the database.
-
Please note that in the case of API campaigns, the data is not integrated into Splio. The rendering system will then use the data that is sent by this API and not the Splio data tables.
