How to add product blocks to your email designs
Product blocks allow you to easily add custom content to your email designs, such as product recommendations, abandoned carts, or recently viewed products.
You can choose a product data source, select the information to display, and then customize the rendering directly in the designer without having to use Liquid syntax.
1. Prerequisites
Before configuring a custom product block, check the following:
The necessary product data is available in your Splio environment.
For product recommendations, recommendation strategies must be configured and available.
For use cases related to web tracking, web tracking must be active and collect the necessary data.
2. Add a product block to an email design
Create a new design and then add a product block.
Access the product block configuration window.
Select the data source to use:
Products in the basket
Product or contact filters
Site navigation
Product recommendations
Choose the number of products to display and the product information to include in the block, such as:
the name of the product;
the image;
the price;
the link to the product page;
any other available custom field.
Add, if necessary, display conditions to show the block only when certain data is available for the contact.
Once the configuration is complete, customize the block's appearance directly in the designer: layout, colors, buttons, texts, links, and spacing.
Use the available product variables
Variables allow you to dynamically display product information within your product block.
When configuring the block, Splio displays the variables available for the selected data source. Variables can represent product attributes such as the product name, image, price, or URL.
Available variables may vary depending on the selected data source.
Add display conditions
Conditions allow you to control the display of a block based on the data available for each contact.
Open the product block in the designer.
Access its settings.
Add a display condition.
Select the variable or field to use.
Choose the appropriate operator and enter the expected value.
Validate the condition and then preview the design to check the block's behavior.

3. Best practices
Limit the number of products displayed to keep your email clear and readable.
Highlight key product information, such as:
Product image;
Product name;
Price ;
CTA button or product link
Avoid changing a recommendation strategy already used in multiple designs without verifying its impact.
For abandoned carts or order confirmations, check that the data is correctly retrieved before activating the campaign.
Test the rendering with multiple contact profiles when possible, as the available data may vary from one contact to another.
Always preview the design before activating it.
4. FAQ
Q: Can I create a product block without using Liquid?
A: Yes. This feature allows you to create product blocks without writing Liquid code. The available variables are directly accessible from the interface and can be configured in the designer.
Q: Why are some products not showing up in my email?
A: There may be several reasons for this:
The contact does not have the required data available.
A variable used in the block is empty.
A display condition prevents the block from being displayed.
Preview the design with different contacts to identify the source of the problem.
Q: Can I display an abandoned cart in an email?
A: Yes, if abandoned cart data is available in your environment. Simply select the appropriate data source when creating the product block.
Q: Can I display products recently viewed by a contact?
A: Yes, provided that web tracking is enabled and browsing data is correctly collected in Splio.
Q: Can I change the appearance of the product block?
A: Yes. The block configuration allows you to define the data source and the variables to display. Visual customization is then done in the designer: colors, buttons, text, links, spacing, and layout.
Q: Why might the preview in the designer be different from the final rendering?
A: Some content depends on the data available for each recipient at the time the email is sent. It is recommended to preview the design with different contacts to check the final result.
