How to create and manage a multilingual email design in Splio

The multilingual email design feature lets you create a single master design and then adapt it for multiple languages directly from the builder. This makes it easier to manage your international campaigns, reduce design duplication, and automatically send the correct language version to each contact based on their language.

This feature is particularly useful if you manage CRM campaigns in multiple countries or markets, with translated content, localized links, or visuals adapted by language.

1. Prerequisites

  • Multilingual functionality is only available for email designs created with Splio's Message Builder

  • The languages used must be among those supported by Splio

  • To automatically receive the correct version, your contacts must have a language specified in the system Language field.

    Note:

  • Currencies are not automatically converted according to language or country.

  • A design can contain one source language and up to 19 variants, for a total of 20 languages.

2. Create a multilingual email design

  1. Create a new design and define its primary language. This language becomes the design's source language.

  2. In the builder, first build the main version of your email

  3. Start creating language variants by clicking on the translation action

  4. Select the languages to add to the design, then start the automatic translation.

Note: some elements are translated automatically while others need to be adapted manually.

  5. Adapt certain elements (for example, the links) in the variants if necessary.

  6. Check each version using the builder's language selector.

  7. Follow the same steps to create multilingual synchronized blocks

  8. Activate your design to use it in a campaign

3. Configure and test a multilingual design

Use multilingual synchronized blocks

You can use synchronized blocks in a multilingual design to reuse the same content across multiple emails, for example a footer, a legal notice, or a recurring section.

In this case, remember to check and adapt the block's content for each design language. The block's common elements remain synchronized, but alternative texts, links, images, and text must be checked in each language variant to avoid sending an incomplete or unlocalized version.

Preview and send a multilingual email test
  1. Go to the Aperçu tab and use the language selector to choose the version to display. By default, the preview displays the source language of the design.

  2. Select a contact to check how the design will look with the customizations.

  3. Access the test send to share your email design. The test send depends on the language of the selected contact, not the language displayed in the preview.
If you send a test to yourself without an associated contact, the email is sent in the design's default language.

Change the languages of a design

You can add or remove languages as long as the design is not used in a campaign.

Once a design has been used in a campaign, even as a draft, you can no longer add or remove languages from that design. This rule ensures the reliability and consistency of your campaign statistics.

To freely change the languages after use in a campaign:

  1. Duplicate the design

  2. Add or remove the necessary languages

  3. Use this new version in your next campaigns

4. Use a multilingual design in a campaign

  1. Create or open an email campaign

  2. Configure your audience

  3. Select your multilingual design

  4. Launch the campaign

When sending, Splio automatically selects the language version corresponding to the contact's language, if one exists. If no matching version is available, the default language is used.

5. Best practices / tips

  • Create a complete source design first before adding languages.

  • Maintain the same block structure across languages to avoid inconsistencies in the design.

  • Avoid translating a design that is still under construction, as every change will need to be checked in the variants.

  • Always check machine translations before sending.

  • Check the links and images for each language , especially if the landing pages are localized.

  • If you need to manage multiple variants of the same language per country, for example French France and French Switzerland, create separate campaigns or use conditions in the design.

  • Provide alternative text for the images in each language.

  • Test your emails with contacts representative of each language.
